Another day that is overcast while walking and sunny once I have stopped for the day. That’s a good thing because it keeps things cool while walking. One last climb and descent from Lugo. It is really beautiful. And once again, after I’m home, I can’t believe how few pictures I took.

Near Palas de Rei
By noon, I’m in Melide. Technically, this is the end of the Camino Primitivo and we are now back on Camino Frances. You don’t need a sign telling you that you are now on the Frances. The dramatic increase in the number of pilgrims gives it away. I stop for lunch at a bar. There’s a Polish couple that I have seen on and off for the last few days. We seemed to stay in a lot of the same allergies. They decide to stop at the same bar just as I am about to leave. They’re stopping in Boente, in another 5.5 km. They’re going to take two more days to get to Santiago. I want to get to Santiago, tomorrow. So, today, I’m heading to Arzua, which is 8 kms further. We say our goodbyes, wishing each other well on the rest of our journey. Although he speaks English, we did not click and did not spend a lot of time together.

The rest of the way is uneventful. Just have to get reused to the hordes of walkers. There are a lot of albergues in town. I stop at one that is highly reviewed. I get the last bunk. Shower and I’m at a nearby bar having my favorite beer. Pilgrims are just streaming into town. There are also a bunch of semis coming down this narrow road and then turning into an even narrower street, in front of the bar. Traffic, periodically comes to a stop, as the trucks maneuver around other vehicles and pilgrims who wander into the road within looking. I ask the bar owner about the trucks. There is a music festival starting later this week and they are here to setup the main stage. Cool. I follow the trucks and check out what’s going on. I see where they are going to be setting up. Not much happening at the moment but further down the road at a smaller square, there is a stage with an orchestra playing classical music. I can’t believe this trip is nearly over.
